Natural Hair Girls Who LIFT Newsletter Feature: Krystal Rose @krystalrosefit

This week I'm highlighting Krystal Rose (@krystalrosefit), she's a holistic health coach based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Krystal has a heartfelt story of resilience and strength in her fitness journey.

When did you start your fitness journey or started training?

I started training over 10 years ago.

Favorite module of training?

Strength training, barbells and kettlebells.

What are the most rewarding things you've achieved since your journey?

Overcoming multiple shoulder and back injuries with limitation and now being able to overhead snatch 16kg Kettlebells and trap bar deadlift over 240+lbs. The most rewarding of it all was the knowledge and understand of foundational and functional strength training. I value mobility, movement prep and recovery work so much more. It has made me stronger than I have ever been previous to any injury in the past. It is my mission and purpose to make movement prep and mobility fun and exciting for other women in building that foundation to strength train.

How does lift heavy make you feel?

Lifting is my form of meditation. I find so much peace and joy in lifting heavy. I not only focus on breath work but getting in touch with all the mechanics of body by setting intentions, visualization of my movements and focus.

What lesson(s) have you learned this past year?

I have learned that being fit is not what it looks like on Instagram. In the pandemic more people are spending time online and on social media. The aesthetic results of the fitness industry can be intimidating for many women of all bodies to start out. I have learned about building a kinder fitness industry through compassion, empathy and a beginner's mindset. That there is more to fitness than how you look, such as being mentally fit, emotionally fit, financially fit, physically fit and nutritionally fit. I have learned that I want to embody a deep health/holistic approach to fitness for myself and in serving other female clients. My focus is to guide women of colour to embody their strength and beauty that is already there in a healthy lifestyle through movement, mindset, habit coaching and strength training.

To add to my lesson learned this year.. I also realized how much I have been putting my passion for coaching on the back burner for the last couple years and took the leap of faith by leaving my full time corporate job to purse fitness and personal health coaching full time so I am JUST starting up my business: www.krystalrosefit.com (coming soon).
